As the folktale goes, "A mantis catches a cicada, unaware of the yellow bird behind", portraying the law of the jungle. Τhe mantis lays eggs protected by an ootheca to ensure continuity. From the egg pod tonic for kidneys that is also beneficial for reproduction, a riboflavin derivative was discovered, providing new insights into insect-derived natural products.
